If you follow photography trends, you’ve probably noticed a style catching on more and more. The nostalgic look and carefree energy of early 2000s photographs. Crooked compositions, higher apertures, motion blur, bold light, soft focus, and plenty of movement and interaction are all making their way back into engagement galleries.
Creatively, this trend interests me so much. At the same time, I never want to stray too far from the qualities my work is known for: beautiful composition, tack-sharp focus, and gorgeous, glowy backlighting. Reagan and Jacob’s Farragut engagement session gave me the perfect opportunity to create a gallery that’s both timeless and fresh.
I knew from the very beginning that Reagan loved the trendy, editorial-inspired look. She shared the inspiration photographs that helped her choose the location for their session, and I immediately recognized the creative direction she had in mind. But Reagan also loves my classic style and chose me as her wedding photographer because of the work she saw throughout my portfolio. Bringing those two aesthetics together felt like the perfect way to tell Reagan and Jacob’s story.
Their outfits complemented the vision beautifully. Every choice felt intentional without appearing overly styled, and their clothing worked perfectly with the backdrop they selected in Farragut. Reagan knows what she loves, has a clear vision, and understands exactly how to bring it to life. That made it especially fun to experiment with movement, creative framing, softer moments, and playful interactions while still creating the polished portraits that will remain beautiful for decades.
Most importantly, Reagan and Jacob brought such a natural connection to their session. Their movement and interactions never felt forced, allowing us to create photographs filled with genuine personality and emotion. The final gallery includes romantic, sharply focused portraits alongside images with motion blur, bold lighting, and a more spontaneous feel. Together, the photographs capture both the steadiness of their relationship and the joy surrounding this season of their lives.
I am absolutely thrilled with Reagan and Jacob’s gallery. Their Farragut engagement session has the perfect balance of timelessness and trend—classic enough to become treasured keepsakes, but creative enough to feel completely current and true to them.
