This season of Coronavirus has really opened the doors for me to shoot more portrait sessions than I normally would this time of year. All of the rescheduled weddings have freed up some time, and last week, I got to photograph a Maypop Fields family session for a visiting group from Ohio. As a Knoxville local, I never think people would vacation here. I always assume it’s just a pass through town for people traveling to Florida. But with everything happening this year, more and more people have found their way to the mountains and the lakes of Tennessee, and it’s pretty cool. The Antil family found us because of a friend who comes here with their family. They snagged a cabin on the water with a boat, and the whole gang came from all over to spend the week together. The majority of them were from Ohio, but one of the groups was from North Carolina, which meant this time was even more special! They don’t always get to see one another, and these cousins…they were just ADORABLE together.
I want to give a big shoutout to Maypop for this, too. I was in a pinch. This family wanted a beautiful backdrop, but their house was on the side of a mountain with no parks or swimming areas anywhere nearby. I settled for a campground, but I kept digging to see if there was anything else that would work better. That’s when I remembered Maypop! I reached out to them the morning of the session and was leaving a pretty desperate voicemail when they called me back. She mentioned that family sessions aren’t really their thing typically, but I think she could smell the desperation on me (through the phone of course) and made an exception for us. I am so so so grateful because this Maypop Fields family session could not have gone any smoother. Other than the sweat marks I had covering my entire shirt front and back within 5 MINUTES of the session. It was sweet as cake. Note to self, never wear the velvety material, blush colored shirt from Target to an outdoor session without a tank underneath it. It’s fine. We’re fine. I blushed and was incredibly embarrassed, but it’s just peeeeaaaachy.
