Estate of Grace Wedding
This was the first time shooting an Estate of Grace Wedding for me. I live in Fountain City on the west side of Broadway, and for pretty much every wedding, I take a right off of my road to head straight to the interstate or downtown. But not this time. Estate of Grace is nestled back on top of a GORGEOUS mountain in Corryton, TN. It was weird and a little deja vu feeling as I drove the backroads taking me back there. See, that’s where I grew up going any time I was spending the weekend with my dad. His whole family lived in Gibbs, and we spent every holiday playing in my mamaw’s front yard. My bestest friend ever, coincidentally also my cousin, lived there. My brother, sister-in-law, other cousin, and his wife all went to Gibbs High School. I’ve also had the absolute pleasure of photographing almost every girl’s wedding that was a part of the tight knit youth group out of Corryton Church, but I haven’t been back in years. As I grew up, my family stopped getting together for holidays. My connections to Gibbs obtained driver’s licenses, and now instead of driving all the way from Clinton to Gibbs, I could meet them half way (boy was that nice!). As I drove on those oh-so-familiar roads, I had so many flashbacks of such a fun, sweet time of my childhood, and it was a little exciting when I got to turn down a different road that would ultimately take me to this phenomenal Estate of Grace Wedding. Parts of Corryton that I didn’t know existed…and woah. are they pretty. Just wait till you see this view!
Changing gears now. I wanted to share this really super funny thing that happened at Kayla & Micah’s wedding. I have literally never seen this before, but it was so good. I obviously don’t know the groom SUPER SUPER well, but from what I do know about him, I NEVER saw this coming. So, you know how receptions go. You kick it off eating dinner, there are some special dances somewhere in there, a cake cutting, open dance floor, bouquet and garter toss, and an exit. The evening had gone along, and it was time for the bouquet and garter. The bouquet toss went well, and I pulled up a chair for Kayla to sit in for the garter removal. The fun garter music started playing, and Micah took a knee in front of Kayla. He put both hands up her dress, and it looked just like a normal garter removal. But he must have been a magician because when he brought his hands out, he had a huge pair of white granny panties in his hands. Everyone, including myself, started DYING laughing. I had never ever in my whole 8 year career in wedding photography, seen this. Micah’s facial expression was like oh gross as he tossed them over his shoulder. Kayla’s facial expression was like what the?!?!?!?!?! and Micah went back in for the actual garter removal. It was by far the best garter removal I have ever witnessed, and I STILL haven’t figured out how he snuck those granny panties up under her dress with no one noticing!
Anywho, I had so much fun shooting at Estate of Grace and have to say the staff there are really really wonderful to work with!
