The Quarry

This Knoxville Wedding Venue has been on my radar since it opened last year. I watched as other photographers were shooting their own weddings at The Quarry and revealing more and more details of the property. I tried to patiently wait for my own wedding to be there, but let’s face it… who the heck is good at patience?? Not this girl. A whole wedding season went by before I got my first inquiry, and when I did, I did everything in my power to get them to book with me. Thankfully, that was Cassie & Stu. Not only were they getting married at The Quarry, but they were also planning a Cinco de Mayo wedding…with lots and lots and lots of geodes.  As Cassie explained all the details of her and Stu’s wedding, I could literally, okay… figuratively… feel my eyes turning to hearts (queue one thousand heart eye emojis here). Shortly after our initial meeting, we got their engagement session scheduled, also at The Quarry. I loved this for so many reasons. 1) I got to meet the ladies that make all the dreams come true, Morgan and Lindsey, before the big day. 2) We actually did a small tour and talked through a little setup for Cassie & Stu’s wedding, so on the day I knew exactly what was happening. 3) Most importantly, I knew where I wanted to take them on their wedding day for portraits. This is really crucial for this Knoxville Wedding Venue specifically because it has a bajillion acres and Morgan and Lindsey open up the whole property free reign for pictures. But, how the heck would you know where you wanted to go if you hadn’t been there before? Also, the spots are not walking distance, so we are driving there, which takes time. And time is something you have so little of on the wedding day, so knowing exactly where you want to go and what you want to do when you get there is so important to get the most and best wedding photos possible. Do not worry for one second that your wedding photos and engagement photos are going to be identical. Everything looks a million times different and better and amazing in a wedding dress ;-). And if you’re still worried about it, have your engagement photos taken in a different season! Even just from late March (when we took Cassie & Stu’s engagement photos) to early May, the grounds were so much different. And in the fall, the whole place would be decorated with orange, yellow and red leaves since it’s almost ALL wooded! You also have time to do things at the engagement session you wouldn’t necessarily have time to do on the wedding day. For instance, I hiked up the side of a cliff while Cassie & Stu stood below to get some great “cliff” shots at their engagement session. On the wedding day, I didn’t want to waste one second not shooting, so I decided to forego the little hike to spend more time shooting rather than walking!

Cinco de Mayo Wedding at The Quarry

Ya’ll know how I am with rain. I really don’t even worry about it anymore because the Lord has literally come through and cleared the clouds just like he parted the water, every. single. time. Cassie & Stu’s wedding was no exception. As we were approaching Cinco de Mayo, the forecast was going back and forth between 80% and 100% rain. Everyone was hoping it would push back to Sunday, and on Friday I received a text from Cassie worried about the rain. It’s easy for people who are not getting married on a rainy day to say “big whoop… its raining. Isn’t it good luck if it rains on your wedding day?”. But when you have spent hundreds and thousands of dollars, invested an excruciating amount of hours planning and creating, it changes things. We looked at the hourly forecast, and it looked like there was a lull in the rain mid-day. Cassie & Stu were not planning on doing a first look, but if they did, it would fall right in that lull. Being the really awesome clients that they are, they agreed to do a first look to salvage their pictures. They decided at 9pm the night before their wedding. It’s not often that you have a team of professionals that are willing to drastically change the timeline that much on such short notice, but they did. And boy am I SO SO happy about this because it really did allow us to get SO many more pictures and go to an extra spot we wouldn’t have had time for otherwise. A huge shout out needs to go to Morgan and Lindsey right now. They had a call with me that night at 9:30pm, got the master timeline updated, called all the impacted vendors and filled them in, and made it happen. To every single person involved…thank you. I will gladly pay you in gorgeous pictures that I took of Cassie & Stu’s wedding to display you’re FABULOUS work! 😉
