I want to provide a little encouragement for all the parents of colic-y babies out there. Meet Hannah Lloyd. This is her Knoxville Botanical Gardens 6 month session and she was colic. In case you are not a parent, colic is gastrointestinal issues in babies that make them super uncomfortable and they cry… like, a lot. There is no way to specifically tell which babies have colic, so doctors do the crying test. If a baby has cried for 3 or more hours at a time for at least 3 days of the week for 3 weeks in a row then they have colic. To add on to the “3” theme, it usually lasts until they are 3 months old. But babies don’t tell you out the gate. When I took baby Hannah’s newborn pictures sometime between day 5 and 7, she was perfect. No crying, pure sleeping bliss, and totally comfy. It’s somewhere in the first 2-4 weeks that they let you know they do not feel good. And the worst part, is you can’t do ANYTHING to help them. You can pay extra for special formula, or if you’re nursing you can cut EVERYTHING but grilled meat out of your diet, and they will still be uncomfortable. The good part is, it is a very short season in the grand scheme of things. For all you colic parents out there, you’re reading this and saying short time my butt. That was the longest 3 months of my liiiiiife. But here’s some encouragement. During Hannah’s Knoxville Botanical Gardens 6 month session, mom and dad were able to say the words when we have our next one. Do you know how huge that is? Once you finally get past the colic stage, it gets SO much easier and there will be a day that all of a sudden it stops. You have no idea what caused it to stop but it stops and you will probably do the happiest happy dance that you will ever do in your life. And from that point forward, parenting will feel easy. You have just single handedly conquered one of the hardest things of caring for a baby. Take pride in that. Puff out your chest. Let the world know you defeated colic. And remember, just because one baby was colic-y doesn’t mean that all your babies are going to be colic-y. So to the parents dealing with colic right now, scroll through Hannah’s Knoxville Botanical Gardens 6 month session, see her sweet, sweet, precious smiling face, and remember, you will have this soon.
