The Pavilion at Hunter Valley Farm Wedding
Chelsie and Brian chose to have a Hunter Valley Farm wedding and I’m so glad they did because it is one of the few venues in Knoxville that offers a fantastic indoor option just in case it is raining! Chelsie emailed me the week before their wedding and said that “what is the plan if it’s raining all day because it looks like it’s going to be”. She wasn’t panicking, she wasn’t frustrated, she just wanted to have a plan in place. My mind instantly started running through all the options that The Pavilion at Hunter Valley Farm offered. They had two outdoors covered areas I immediately thought of and I had two clear umbrellas that would allow us to go out into the rain. It wasn’t going to be an issue at all. And then once I showed up and saw the ceremony setup inside, I was so pleased… it looked so good. Still thanking the Lord that my one rainy wedding this season was a Hunter Valley Farm Wedding with such great options.

After doing Chelsie and Brian’s engagement pictures back in the spring, I got so excited for their wedding! I didn’t know it at the time, but their wedding day would really push me out of my creative bubble. See, I heavily rely on going outside for pictures, as most photographers do. And when I do shoot inside, I really rely on major window light flooding my subject. When I arrived to the hotel where Brian and Chelsie were getting ready, I quickly realized there was little to know window light. And it was one of those days that had a drizzle/pour all day long, so there was no going outside either. I looked and looked for a pretty suede chair that I could display the bridal details on and found none. I did, however, photograph Chelsie’s dress and find a really long train that would make the perfect surface for her details. And with it being white, I could use flash and bounce it off of the white dress to give the effect of window light. Then of course finding fighting with the rain to get portraits done as well… either way, their wedding was towards the end of my very long, and awesome, but still, long fall wedding season and I’m glad that I was given an opportunity to really step out of my creative routine that I was in the flow of to do something a little different and get shots that they will love forever.
My favorite part about Chelsie and Brian’s day has to be Chelsie’s first look with her dad. It was so precious. I had Chelsie hide in the girl’s bathroom (no judging, it’s a very large bathroom at Hunter Valley), while I placed her dad right outside in the dressing room area. I told her when we were ready and the second he saw her, his eyes filled with tears. He took his baby girl into his arms and held her so tight. He told her how perfect she looked and how awesome her dress was. And then taking his hands on either side of her arms, leaned really close, almost forehead to forehead, and told her how proud of her he was. Chelsie’s mom was watching and as we stood beside each other, we were both sniffling so hard. After their moment was done, they looked over at me waiting for instructions on what to do next and I put my camera down laughing as I revealed my red eyes and tear streaked cheeks. These father daughter moments have just hit me really hard this year with my dad dying and I just love them so much. As I’m documenting them, I can’t help but think how important these photos are going to be one day and how much I love my job.
